Why we love Bone Broth

Magnolia was diagnosed with leaky gut about 6 months ago, this was a bit of a hangover from feeding dry food for just a short period. The Bone Broth promotes a healthy gut and can literally plug up the holes created from leaky gut.

It helps the liver detox and because of the high level of collagen the bone broth contains it is great for joint health.

Bone Broth is also great for dogs who are unwell as it aids digestion.

You can find bone broth on the shelf of your supermarket or health food store but you can make this so easily at home too, for a lot cheaper! I'm all about saving a dollar but I also love knowing exactly what is in everything I'm feeding the dogs.

How much Bone Broth should you feed your dog?

This will depend on the size of your dog, Waldorf, Astoria and Magnolia sit between 10 - 12kg so we are feeding 100ml per day.

Adult humans can have up to 3 cups of Bone Broth per day, have a google of the benefits of Bone Broth for humans and you will be lapping this goodness up too!

Bone Broth Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg Meaty bones

    • For Chicken Bone Broth use organic chicken carcasses & chicken necks

    • For Beef Bone Broth use Organic Grass fed beef bones with marrow

  • 4 carrots

  • 4 celery stalks

  • 1 onion (yes your dog can tolerate onion)

  • 2 cloves garlic (and yep garlic is beneficial to your doggo)

  • 1 Sweet Potato

  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar - we love Bragg's ACV. This helps draw out the minerals from the bones

  • Herbs - I chose some herbs I have growing in my garden

    • Sage

    • Parsley

    • Rosemary - these are all spray free of course

  • Filtered water - we use filtered rainwater from our tank

Directions

  1. Throw everything into a large stock pot

  2. Cover your ingredients with filtered water and bring to the boil

  3. Add a lid to your pot and simmer for 12 hours

  4. Strain into containers or jars

The Bone Broth will keep for 3 days in your fridge, I freeze the remainder

Please note I am not a nutritionist, please seek your own advice on pet feeding requirements if needed.
